Mogo is a charming historic village with a thriving arts scene. When you visit Mogo you will find a huge range of handcrafted items, unique gifts and artworks for every taste. You can also enjoy our eateries with fantastic dishes and great coffee. You will notice the ‘old time’ character of Mogo Village has endured, because many of the newer buildings have been designed to complement the surviving miners’ cottages. Mogo is home to the Monaro and Yuin people who have significant heritage in the area with many Aboriginal sites and features being identified. In the language of the Yuin people the word ‘Mogo is said to mean ‘Stone Axe and large camping ground’.
The Mogo Wildlife Park has the largest collection of endangered and exotic animal species in Australia, including the largest collection of primates. There are over 250 animals in the park. Meander through gentle, wide pathways that take you through your Amazon jungle, African savannahs, and Nepalese bamboo forests. You can hand-feed kangaroos, deer, and camels - even better than looking at the animals in a traditional zoo. Don’t miss Zookeeper Chad’s Virtual QR code tour, too. A range of once-in-a-lifetime, close-up, personal animal encounters are also available.
